Coronavirus Conversations
By Don Bennett, DAS
April 28, 2020

First, some definitions:

Coronavirus: a family of viruses, which include Rhinoviruses ("colds") and SARS viruses. Other families are Orthomyxovirus (influenza), Flaviviridaevirus (Dengue, Zika), Filoviridaevirus (Ebola)

Covid-19: Corona Virus Disease which began in 2019 (this is not the name of the virus, it is the name of the condition attributed to the virus)

SARS-CoV-2 (the name of the virus, for context, the 2003 SARS-CoV-1 "went away" before a vaccine could be rolled out)

Now, let's shine some light on the "number of cases" issue

There's no way to know that figure with any degree of accuracy. Why? The majority of people who are infected don't need to see a doctor or go to a hospital, so they can't be counted. So anyone who posts a figure is either guessing, posting something they were given to post (media), or they are trying to misrepresent that number due to an agenda. So when you see a graphic that says "NUMBER OF CASES", it should say, "NUMBER OF REPORTED CASES". If the word reported isn't there, that info shouldn't be trusted. The omission is not a typo; if you and I can comprehend the difference between these two ways of representing a figure, so can the people at major media outlets. [Note: As of 6/2021 it's estimated that over 99.5% of infected people survived without needing to go to a doctor or hospital; it was those who had existing ill health who were at risk of dying because the infection pushed their ill health over the edge. And this figure was pre-vaccine roll-out.]

Now, let's examine the death rate issue

You'd think that this metric would be easy to accurately report. But even if it was, since we don't know with any kind of accuracy what the number of cases are, a death rate percentage can't be calculated. But that doesn't stop one from being made. And I can understand wanting to have one; humans have a natural desire to represent things with numbers. But what can make the death rate percentage inaccurate is how the Covid-19 "Cause of Death" (COD) are being reported (what appears on the Death Certificate as the official COD). As you might expect, there is a standard for determining COD. Up until now, a medical doctor can't put down what he believes was the COD or what was probably or likely the COD... it must be known to be the direct cause of the death. CODs must be accurate and accurately described. So even if a person falls off a cliff to jagged rocks below, the COD is not "a fall from height" even though that's obvious; it's "blunt force trauma". During this SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, medical doctors were puzzled by a notification from the U.S. Department of Health that said for them to list as the COD "Covid-19" even if there was no test to confirm the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus! If the patient died of pneumonia or sepsis, list it as Covid-19. Many doctors have spoken out about this because people were dying of pneumonia and sepsis before this outbreak, so it is irresponsible to enter as a COD something that wasn't confirmed because it would skew the death rate statistics. If you wanted to inflate the death rate from Covid-19, isn't this the memo you'd write and send to all medical doctors? And by-the-way, this is not conspiracy theory talk, these are facts. If you want to dismiss them as mere conspiracy theory, then you prefer to believe what you want to believe rather than the truth. Yes, I know, no one wants to believe that the media – that people depend on for the their news – might misreport things, but they do it all the time, so deal with it.

But who would stand to benefit from widespread fear of this virus?

Just consider this one word, a word that has caused more suffering and death than all the epidemics that have ever been, combined. Profit. It's the 800 pound Gorilla in the room, and it's what corporate journalists won't discuss on-air. Ask yourself, who stands to financially benefit from the entire world's population being scared of Covid-19? If you said, "The pharmaceutical companies who would come out with a vaccination to prevent it" you'd be correct. Now, of all the industries in the world, which one "donates" the most money to politicians and even unelected officials and organizations that have sway with politicians? Right again, the pharmaceutical industry. And this industry does this for influence, just like they do with the major TV and cable networks by buying airtime for products that only doctors can prescribe and that make the pharma industry almost zero return-on-investment, profit-wise. So it's not a stretch of the imagination to think that it's in the best interest of the pharma industry for there to be an exaggerated number of cases and death rate.

Now for some of the more rational conversations I've read

"John Roberts [the journalist] was just caught on a hot mic at the White House press briefing discussing a new study that showed the Covid-19 mortality rate at 0.1 to 0.3 percent, which is right in line with the seasonal flu. The study shows that an estimated 4% of people in LA were infected, based on antibodies present when tested. This means that the reported number of ~7000 infected in LA was gravely underestimated. The real number is somewhere in the way of 221,000-441,000, which basically throws the heavily inflated mortality rate off a cliff. You know, the death rate that has justified the global shut down, economic crash, tens of millions suddenly unemployed etc. The craziest part is that it can be proven that Fauci knew all of this back in March. In the New England Journal of Medicine Fauci states that the mortality rate is 0.1%.

The most effective way of dealing with this pandemic is for high risk groups to be quarantined and letting healthy individuals build immunity naturally [from getting sick and recovering]. We should be encouraging proper nutrition, not just masks and vaccines. If you can't see that there are agendas behind the way this is being managed then i dont know what to say to you."

"The mortality rate will likely be right in line with the flu... which will annoy the 'Covid-19 is way worse than the flu' crowd. Seems this virus is right on par with it. It is just new. [Because no one in the world has ever had SARS-CoV-2 yet, there will be more "first round" deaths which can make this virus appear to be more lethal than flu viruses.] Even in Wuhan their morality rates ranged, but people took the higher number of 3% and ran with it when some areas of Wuhan had way lower death rates depending on many variables: age, health, etc.

This world shutdown was a huge catastrophe, disrupting people's incomes, mental health, education and so much more. The recovery from that I can't even imagine. Less than 250,000 people have died globally from Covid-19 currently. Nearly 800,000 died from the seasonal flu last year and there was no shutdown of the world. This shutdown was about something else in my opinion."

"Social distancing was a way of dealing with a lack of masks, so when masks are now more readily available, and everyone is required to wear one to gain entrance to my local Whole Foods market, why is this Whole foods still requiring everyone to stay at least 6 feet away from everyone else if everyone is wearing a mask, including employees? I asked that of the person in front of me on the line outside of Whole Foods waiting to enter, when this person told me to 'Step back!' because she thought I was closer than six feet (I wasn't). After I told her that I was at least six feet away, and that me stepping back would stress out the 20 or so people behind me because each one of them would have to step back, I tried reasoning with her and assuring her that her mask and my mask made social distancing unnecessary. She wasn't buying any of it and screamed for a manager. The manager, realizing that it would be better to remove her from the line and get her special entrance rather than make dozens of people move back a foot, did so. But this demonstrates how some people are fear-based and because of this, can't listen to reason or think rationally. And this very human trait is being taken advantage of by certain factions."

"When there is a downturn in the number of reported cases and in the death rate, the order to do social distancing will be hailed as the reason, even though viruses run their course and cases decrease on their own without any social distancing. People will die from Covid-19, but not from the virus; they will die because their health was poor enough to result in pneumonia or sepsis. And those who would die because of this virus will die eventually; social distancing will simply delay it. The only way to prevent those vulnerable from dying is for them to self-quarantine permanently. Infection rates don't diminish because viruses go away, they diminish because people get the virus, develop antibodies to it, so the next time they're exposed to it, they don't become symptomatic, meaning, they never knew they 'got it' again. So it only appears the virus has gone away. This fact is not being explained to the people by media and health officials, and it should be."

"Not enough people in authority are realizing that there can be long term, permanent damage from this handling of the outbreak to individuals, economically, which can depress the immune system, making them more susceptible to harm from illness. So those that manage the country for us (politicians) have the unenviable task of weighing economic damage with the vitriol they would get from being the adult in the room and saying what needs to be said about not harming the economy for millions of people, and sharing the facts about the virus and how people become infected. This is difficult because too many politicians are influenced by special interests (people who are in no danger of economic harm from this outbreak, and may even benefit from it financially). This honest assessment should not be confused with the same recommendations to open the economy by those who only care about their stock's prices... their motivation is greed. So there can be recommendations that are beneficial coming from people with hidden agendas. Keep that in mind."

"Why is the CDC and public health officials only talking about washing hands, wearing masks, social distancing, and keeping hands away from the nose and mouth, and NOT talking about what can be done to help the body be better able to deal with an infection if it happens, so that even less people would have to go to the hospital and less people would die from complications? Simply mentioning that taking vitamin C would improve people's immune systems is a low cost, safe, and effective recommendation. And public health officials can't say, "Well, we can't recommend anything that isn't supported by studies and empirical evidence" because the studies exist and so does the empirical evidence... hospitals around the world are administering IV C to Covid-19 patients, even in the U.S., and it's helping, but not a word about it on the evening news or in press briefings by public health officials. It's almost as if they were muzzled somehow. Hmmm, let's see... who would it hurt if this info was widely disseminated? Oh, Big Pharma! Of course! They don't want to once again be Little Pharma, in fact, they want to be Bigger Pharma (via more vaccines). And if the general public's health improved from the taking of worthwhile, beneficial nutritional supplements (not the Centrum, One-A-Day, or Theragram crap), they would lose revenue, and they will not tolerate that. Instead they will launch campaigns against those who talk about truly beneficial preventatives and treatment, painting them to look like the charlatans who DO sell woo-woo BS products."
